What is Funded Early Education for 3 and 4 year olds?

The Government offers 15 hours (Universal) funding for all 3 and 4 year olds. They also offer an additional 15 hours (Extended) funding for families who meet the eligibility criteria, called 30 hours Funding. Flying Start offers a total of 27.5 hours a week for 38 weeks a year.

Parents can start using their funded early education in the term after their child turns 3 years of age.

Parents can continue to access funded early education until their child either starts in reception class at a local authority maintained school or reaches compulsory school age, which is the school term after their fifth birthday.

Surrey County Council pays the funding for Funded Early Education for 3 and 4 year olds directly to the childcare provider.

Extended Entitlement

Some parents may be eligible to a further 15 hours of funding for 3 and 4 year olds. We offer a total of 27.5 hours at Flying Start. To find out whether you are eligible and how to apply, please follow this link on the Government Website.

You must have a valid code by the end of the month before a new term starts.

You have to reconfirm your eligibility every 3 months. If you apply more than 3 months before the term starts, you’ll have to reconfirm your eligibility in your account in order to keep your code valid.

Flying Start Additional Charges

Government Early Education funding is for BASIC childcare with a staff:children ratio of 1 adult: 8 children. At Flying Start, we have 7 staff plus the Owner for 30 children between the ages of 2 and 5 years. Therefore, we work to a much higher ratio than the government funding covers. We also offer a variety of additional services and extra-curricular activities. If you choose Flying Start, you are choosing our higher staff ratios and highly qualified staff as well our extra-curricucular activities and therefore are signing up to paying our additional costs. If this is not for you, then please considered other options that suit your budget.
